Halloween Candy : moderation is key
Reasons not to eat the kids Halloween candy
This year you will not loose control, you will not feel bad about yourself, you are an adult and shall act responsibly… Or maybe not, in any case, here is a list of good reasons not to eat the kids Halloween candy or at least to try to avoid over-consuming it.
You will disrupt your microbiome if you eat too much candy
Too much candy will change your gut’s bacterial population; sugar feeds the bad bacteria. This unbalanced condition in your gut might have a downward spiral effect : increased levels of inflammation throughout the body, diminished capacity to absorb nutrients, mood and mental function changes, etc.
Your body will store all that extra sugar as fat on your body
All the fats and sugar from the candy will be processed and accumulated. Once your cells have what they need, sugars will be converted into fats and this fat will be stored on your body somewhere.
It is quite possible that you will loose control and eat way too much
One candy becomes a handful, then becomes many handfuls and some negative things can start to happen. Your brain will activate its reward system and this increase in your “feel good” hormone will start telling you to eat more of the Halloween treats, even if you’re full.
You might be more vulnerable to catching a cold
Candy and gum are rich in titanium oxide, a common food additive. Its nanoparticles decrease the ability of the intestine cells to act as a barrier to pathogens. Therefore your immune function will likely be weakened if you loose your self-control this Halloween.
Finally, try to avoid micromanaging your kids this year et let them eat their Halloween candy. By doing so, you will teach them to listen to their own hunger cues. However, have a date in mind when you believe they have enjoyed it enough, and make it gradually disappear. Nevertheless, eating it yourself is not part of the vanishing act.
